Do You Know How Your Smile Makes People Feel About You?

If you have stained, discolored and crooked teeth, or just a less than perfect smile, chances are you are a bit self-conscious about your appearance. Even if you are reluctant to admit it, that self-consciousness can get in the way of your personal life and even harm your professional career.

On some level, the self-consciousness you feel about your smile and your teeth may seem a bit irrational, but there is some evidence to back up those feelings. Like it or not, the quality of your smile can affect how people perceive you. Whether it is your boss at work, the first date across the table or even your own family member, it is important to think about how your smile can make people think and feel about you.

Missing Teeth

If you have missing teeth or a gap-tooth smile, the people who love you most could unconsciously worry about the impact those imperfections have on your appearance and your ability to get a date and sustain a long-term relationship. Even if nothing is ever said, those feelings are probably there, and you have probably felt them yourself.

You may even share those concerns, especially when you go out on a date or attend parties with lots of strangers. You may find yourself hanging back or avoiding conversation, or even hiding in the corner while those around you dance, chat and have fun.

If you have darker spots on your teeth from a neglected cavity or other dental problem, you may even be reluctant to go out on a date or engage in social situations at all. You may tell yourself that you prefer a night in to a date with a new friend, but deep down you know that your smile, and its impact on your appearance, is to blame for your unease in social situations.

Yellow Teeth

As you can see, having a less than perfect smile can impact your life in many different ways. Whether the problem is yellow teeth from a lifetime of smoking and coffee consumption, missing teeth as the result of a long-forgotten accident or dark spots on your teeth from a neglected cavity, these dental problems can mar an otherwise great appearance and leave you isolated and alone when you should be going out and enjoying life.

Good News

The good news is that you do not have to live with a poor smile one day longer. With the right dental treatment, you can transform your missing and discolored teeth into a bright white smile. You can finally deal with those crooked and misshaped teeth, leaving behind a mouth full of beautiful straight teeth and opening up a world of new possibilities.

It may not be fair, but those around you often judge you by your appearance even when they do not mean to. Whether those slights and negative attitudes are conscious or unconscious, they still hurt, but there is something you can do about your less than perfect smile – and you should not wait one more day.
