A healthy smile is the reflection of a healthy lifestyle, and the quality of your teeth says a lot about the way you live your life and the care you take to look your best. If you want your smile to stay bright and white as you age, you need to take a proactive approach to oral hygiene.

Knowing what to do, and what not to do, can keep your smile, and the rest of your body, healthy. Here are some simple ways to keep your smile healthy and your teeth looking their best.

Brush After Every Meal

The simplest and easiest thing you can do for your smile is brush your teeth regularly. You should give your teeth a good brushing when you get up in the morning, after breakfast, lunch and dinner and again before you turn in for the night.

You should also brush your teeth after drinking sugary beverages like soda and coffee drinks, and after consuming cakes and other sweets. Prompt brushing can remove the particles that would otherwise promote tooth decay and otherwise dim your smile.

Eat a Healthy Diet

You can do a lot for your smile simply by eating a healthy diet. A diet rich in crunchy fruits and vegetables can clean your teeth naturally, giving your toothbrush less to do and helping to preserve your healthy smile.

Limiting your consumption of sugary beverages and snack foods can also preserve your smile and keep you looking your best. You do not have to give up sugar completely, but limiting the amount you eat is good for your teeth, and your healthy smile.

Use a Quality Toothpaste

Buy the best toothpaste you can afford, and make sure the formulation includes fluoride, a noted cavity preventer. Talk to your dentist about the toothpaste you are using, and listen to his or her recommendations.

Change Your Toothbrush Often

Toothbrushes do not last forever, and you should change yours often. Throw out your toothbrush and replace it with a new one when the bristles start to show their wear – the quality of the toothbrush you use will make a big difference in the brightness of your smile.

See Your Dentist Twice a Year

You can do a lot to preserve your bright white smile, but even the strictest brushing regimen is no substitute for regular dental visits. You should see your dentist twice a year for preventative care, and more often if you have ongoing problems.

From seeing your dentist regularly to brushing your teeth after every meal, there are plenty of ways to keep your smile bright, white and vibrant for a lifetime. If you take good care of your teeth, your smile will return the favor, and you can retain your youthful good looks and confidence for the rest of your life.
